Species: Common Carder Bee or Bumbóg Charda Choiteann – Bombus pascuorum
Appearance: Ginger tail and thorax, and a striped abdomen. The colour fades over time. 24 to 77 mm in length
When to see them: Early Spring to early Autumn
Where do they live? On the surface – look out for them disappearing under leaf litter, or under a pile of dead wood.
Likes to visit: Knapweed, Red Clover, Dandelion, Kidney Vetch, Bird’s-foot-trefoil, Devil’s-bit Scabious, White Clover, Bramble and Thistles
