Species: Red-tailed Bumblebee or Bumbóg Earr-Rua Bombus lapidarius
Appearance: Jet black bumblebee with an orange-red tail. 11-16 mm in size. The Queen is up to 22mm long.
When to see them: February – October. They are rare, but they have been spotted here on the Greenway
Where do they live? Underground in holes – look out for them entering or exiting a tiny hole or the base of a tussock of grass.
Likes to visit: Red dead-nettle, Clover, Thistles
