Cruinniú na nÓg 2025: Westmeath Programme of Events

Take a look at our jam-packed programme of free events for Cruinniú na nÓg 2025on Saturday 7th June! Cruinniú na nÓg is a national day of free creativity for children and young people under 18. This year, Westmeath invites you to participate in a programme of fun, creative activities.

Inspiration Stations

Location: Your local library- Athlone, Castlepollard, Moate, Mullingar

Time and Dates: June 7th- 11am

Details: Get inspired at Westmeath libraries where children of all ages will be able to drop in and get creative at our imagination stations. Each of our libraries will have an arts and crafts event. There will also be storytimes, colouring sheets, toys and games available to spark your curiosity and imagination.

Animated Athlone

Location: St. Mary's Hall, Athlone, N37N1W3

Time and Dates: June 7th, 10am-12pm

Details: On June 7th, Matchbox Mountain will introduce participants to Hand Drawn Animation. July 21st - 25th will allow participants to continue to grow their animation skills and write, design and animate their own stop motion films.

Athlone Youth Orchestra

Garden to Gallery -Couture

Location: Athlone Castle, N37A6D7

Time and Dates: June 7th

Details: The Garden to Creation workshops will be taking place on the 10th, 17th, and 24th of May. Join Athlone Castle on June 7th, where participants will showcase their creations in a fashion show, ‘Garden To Runway’, in the courtyard of Athlone Castle.

Groove and Move

Details: Join Miss Annie for Groove and Move sessions in Athlone Library June 7th for a celebration of music for Cruinniú na nÓg!

Blossoms, Beats and Treats

Location: Water Street Association, Castlepollard, N91NP40

Time and Dates: June 7th, 10:30am

Details: Water Street Community Association, with Anna Browne (Big Sky Flowers) and Bertille de Lestrade (Studio Bleu), invites you to Blossoms, Beats & Treats in Castlepollard for Cruinniú na nÓg on June 7th. At 10:30am there will be a flower crown workshop, and at 1pm there will be a Drum Making Workshop

Let your Creative Spirit Flow

Location: Devine Art Studios, Crookedwood, N91FD39

Time and Dates: June 7th, 11am-12:30pm and 1pm-2:30pm

Details: Let your creative spirit flow in Devine Art Studios. Create your very own acrylic paint masterpiece, under the guidance of visual artist, Caithriona Devine. If weather-appropriate, workshops may be held outside.

Birds & Wildlife Art Workshop

Details: A relaxing, nature-inspired art session, celebrating birds and wildlife. Participants will engage in hands-on activities, such as painting, collage-making and sculpture, using natural materials like leaves, feathers and clay.

Buzz, Flutter, Crawl: Insects Art Workshop

Details: A creativity-packed, insect-themed art workshop. Learn fun facts about bugs through interactive art, encourage kids to invent their species, and build habitats in miniature.

Neon Lights - Drawing in the Dark

Details: An edgy, modern art workshop designed for teens. Experiment with neon paints, glow-in-the-dark pens, and blacklight effects in a darkened studio. A chance to express individuality and creativity in a new way.

Blacksmith Demonstrations

Location: The Forge, Dún na Sí, Moate, N37P271

Time and Dates: June 7th, 11am and 2pm

Details: Discover the Blacksmith way of life, and learn about the traditional ways to make metal objects like nails, farm tools, and horseshoes. Join local Blacksmith in Dún na Sí’s working forge, for an interactive demonstration and discover the art of this ancient craft.

The Little Prince: A Multilingual Journey Through Art and Story

Location: Riverside Community Centre, Mullingar, N91A0YT

Time and Dates: June 7th, 10am - 4pm

Details: A vibrant, inclusive community event that invites both Lithuanian and Irish families to come together through language, art and imagination. Young participants will choose scenes from "The Little Prince", read them in Lithuanian, English, or Irish, and create illustrations inspired by the story.

Mindfulness Meditative Art Workshop

Location: Crane Bird Studio & Art School, Mullingar, N91A003

Time and Dates: June 7th, 4pm

Details: A free workshop to guide tweens and teenagers on how to develop their art skills through painting and drawing. Participants will be guided and provided with techniques, to boost their self-confidence through meditative art and wellbeing activities.

Mullingar Gathers na nÓg- Mindful Movement with Yogi Beaga

Details: In this mindful movement workshop our experienced instructor will guide the class through poses and breathing exercises suitable for all levels. It's a wonderful opportunity for kids to connect with their bodies and minds in a peaceful setting.

Music Jam Live

Pottery Jam

Details: Learn ceramic hand-building techniques with Westmeath ceramicist, Stephanie Mc Guinness.Participants will learn different ceramic techniques including pinch and slab building. You can also decorate your piece.

Premiere of The Children of Lír

Location: Mullingar Library, N91FH4N

Details: Join us in Mullingar Library for the premiere of The Children of Lír, a magical film created by the 2nd class students of Holy Family. This wonderful project brings the legendary Irish tale to life through sound, storytelling, and the creative vision of these young composers.

Swish and Jiggle Under the Sea

Location: Mullingar Library, N91FH4N

Time and Dates: June 7th, 10am and 11am

Details: Swish, jiggle and join us for an underwater adventure! This gentle session blends music, movement, and ocean-inspired fun. We’ll sing songs, sway like seaweed, and listen to a beautiful story from beneath the waves. Children will also create their very own shaker instrument to take home. Perfect for preschoolers who love the sea, sound, and creativity.

Teens Telling Tales

Details: Join PIO Media at the YoYo Café for Teens Telling Tales, a writing course to share your stories, experiences, and creativity in a fun and supportive environment.

The Rubbish Room

Details: The Rubbish Room is a one-day, immersive creative experience for children and young people that invites participants to explore their imagination using materials that would otherwise go to waste.
