Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day at the Aidan Heavey Library Athlone

Stories, music and song flowed from the Aidan Heavey Library today to mark the upcoming St. Patrick’s weekend.

The Dean Kelly National School were at Athlone Library to perform a selection of Irish ballads. The students sang a range of songs from ‘Ireland’s Call’ to ‘Molly Malone’ with members of the audience joining in and even having a dance! The students were joined by their teachers who played the supporting instruments. It was a thoroughly enjoyable morning for all who attended!

At lunch time we had a beautiful music performance from ‘Jim & Friends’. The sounds of the Irish flute, banjo and guitars filled the library. Caoímhe, one of the library staff, also joined in to sing a tune! A big thank you to Jim & Friends for a wonderful performance.

Later in the day, Caroline and Caoímhe held a children’s storytime as Gaeilge and finished off the session with some music and dancing!

We are looking forward to the Athlone Croí Na hÉireann Festival this weekend in Athlone for more music and celebration!
