Engineers Week 2024 took place from the 2nd March – 8th March. The Aidan Heavey Library had lots of exciting schools events taking place during the week. On Tuesday the Westmeath Fire & Rescue Service visited the library to give a talk on the fire & rescue service, including how engineering is an important part of their daily work. The Dean Kelly National School 5th class students learned about fire safety and even got to try on some fire fighting equipment!
After that, the Rediscovery Centre and Medtronic held two engineering workshops with the Dean Kelly National School. Both workshops were possible with the support of Engineer’s Ireland and Medtronic. The students learned about engineering concepts and processes, including how engineering is an integral part of our daily lives. They even completed an engineering challenge at the end!
To finish the week we had a visit from Creagh National School for a ‘Bridge that Gap’ K’NEX challenge. Lots of fun was had and it was great to see the thought and planning that went into the different structures. Well done everyone who took part.
We are already looking forward to Engineers Week 2025!
