Moate Library was delighted to welcome the Irish Heart Foundation mobile unit on Monday 29 May. This was a great opportunity for members of the public to get a free blood pressure and pulse check and meet a nurse for a healthy heart chat.

Cllr Tom Farrell and Minister of State Peter Burke stopped by the unit to support the initiative and raise awareness of the importance of regular blood pressure checks. According to the Irish Heart Foundation, 2 in 3 adults over 50 have high blood pressure and aren’t aware of it. High blood pressure carries risks for a number of serious conditions. The higher your blood pressure, the greater your risk of heart attack or stroke, heart failure, kidney failure and dementia. Lower blood pressure when you stand up or bend over (known as postural hypotension) may make you feel faint or dizzy.
