During the month of February, libraries across the country celebrated Ireland Reads, an initiative by the Government of Ireland to promote the joy of reading. Here at Mullingar Library, we concluded the celebrations with a Found Poetry Workshop. The students from 4th Class at St. Tolas National School in Delvin were also celebrating Creative February, making it the perfect opportunity for a trip to the library!
The Found Poetry Workshop, facilitated by library staff members, invites children to explore the art of poetry in a unique and imaginative way. Using pages from retired library books, children highlight words and phrases that resonated with them, crafting their own poems or stories.
This technique, also known as 'blackout poetry,' is a fantastic way for children to develop their literary and artistic skills while having fun in a supportive and inspiring environment.
