Westmeath Libraries is delighted to be part of the national Summer Stars Reading Adventure. There are lots of ways for young readers to take part.
1. Register for Summer Stars. Drop into your local library and register for Summer Stars. Membership is free and once registered for Summer Stars, you will receive your Reading Card to help keep a log of all the books you have read.
2. Borrow from your local library. Our libraries are open so pop in and stock up on some brilliant summer reads. When visiting the library, please practice good hand hygiene and be considerate of others so that everyone can enjoy their visit safely.
3. Summer Stars BorrowBox: Browse, borrow, read and listen to the Summer Stars collection of children’s e-books and e-audio books through the library BorrowBox app. This is free for all members to use from anywhere, anytime. Non-members can join online for free at https://www.librariesireland.ie/join-your-library.
4. Online Storytime: Follow Westmeath Libraries on facebook as we will share online stories as part of Summer Stars 2021.
5. Story Competition: As well an enjoying the amazing world of books, Summer Stars is also celebrating children’s imaginations by running a short story competition. Set your imagination free and complete the story which opens with the line: Of all the places in the world, I never thought I would be here There are three age categories with great prizes for all the winners and runners-up. 6. Online Resources: Follow our Westmeath Libraries facebook page as we will share lots of activities throughout the summer as part of Summer Stars 2021. Crafts, storytimes, scavenger hunts and more!
6. Reading cards and reviews: Children can track their reading progress with reading cards (printable version below) which can be marked each time a book is read, online or in print form. You can leave a review on Libraries Ireland so why not let people know which book you would give a thumbs up to.
