When challenged to think of Road Safety by Westmeath Libraries and the Westmeath County Council Road Safety Officer , children from around the county responded with catchy slogans, colourful posters and an awareness that Road Safety effects all sorts of road users.
The Leas Cathaoirleach of Westmeath County Council, Cllr. Michael Dollard was joined by Colm Smith, Road Safety Officer, Westmeath County Council at a special prizegiving in Mullingar Library on Tuesday 10th December. As Road Safety Officer, Colm praised the range of posters on display which highlight a variety of road safety messages.
With over 400 entries, the competition was a huge success in allowing discussions on road safety and how we share the roads. Cllr. Michael Dollard said “Road safety is hugely important at this time of the year with darker evenings, more traffic and poor weather conditions” and paid tribute to the teachers, parents and children who supported the competition.
This year the overall winner was Samuel Gately, the prize is a €200 voucher for a Cycle Safe Course for his school, Castlepollard Parochial school. Congratulations to Samuel, and all our winners.
