Battle of Wits - Westmeath Culture

The Battle of Wits is a Table Quiz for Transition Year students in Westmeath, Longford, Offaly, and Laois. Please contact dearbhla.sheridan@westmeathcoco.ie for more details, or if you are a TY teacher in a Westmeath school and would like to participate. Teachers from other counties should contact their local library for more information.

The Battle of Wits consists of three rounds:

School Battle: An initial table quiz to be held within the school. The winning team will go forward to the next stage.

County Battle: The winning team from each school will proceed to the County Battle in Aras an Chontae, Mullingar on 17th October 2024.

Regional Battle: Two teams from each county will then go forward to the Regional Final in Aidan Heavey Library, Civic Centre, Athlone on 5^th Dec 2024. A perpetual trophy will be awarded to the winning school & prizes given for 1^st, 2^nd & 3^rd Place.

Teams should comprise a maximum of four members.
The table quiz includes 10 rounds of 6 questions.
Access to mobile phones, other devices or other information sources should be eliminated. (If your students may have phones we suggest all phones being placed in a clear bag on the table. You will know the best approach for your school.)
Time allowing you may wish to break the quiz after five rounds and read back answers for the preceding rounds. This will help give time to correct these rounds.
Ideally the top three teams should be announced at the end of the quiz. However only the team in first place will proceed to the County Battle.
Please submit the names of your winning team as soon as possible by email to dearbhla.sheridan@westmeathcoco.ie. If possible we would also ask for a photograph of the winning team for use in a press release and social media promotion.
