Time to get started

Aine from Athlone Library shares some tips for those interested in our Grow It Forward programme

Westmeath Libraries are delighted to announce that we have received our first batch of Grow Kits, which we are posting out to those already registered.  And so, our joint adventure in Growing begins!  Please do your best to play an active part in all the sharing: of seeds, pots, plants, harvest and recipes.  We look forward to hearing reports of your progress, and seeing images of your delicious, home-grown food!

Though a seemingly endless supply of equipment can by bought, why not see what you have already that can be used?  Perhaps you too have Bamboo that needs cutting back?  Then we should save our longer clippings because our Pea plants will need the support of suchlike, at a later date!

Likewise, there are all manner of Pots and Planters on the market, but remember, one pot can house a variety of plants (and thus reduce your outlay).

I added Mint into this pot which already had Daffs and succulents, and you can see how healthy it is coming along again, this year.

Your Grow Kit is a gift from “Grow it Yourself”, and is currently being distributed by libraries nationwide.  It’s all to do with the “Keeping Well” campaign – so let’s see how well we can all play our part.  Still need to apply for your own free Grow Kit?  Just contact us at GIF@westmeathcoco.ie, providing your postal address.

Happy Growing to you all! With best wishes from the library Grow it Forward team.
