The launch of the 'Memories' Oral History Project by Athlone Community Services Council CLG took place at the Aidan Heavey Library, Athlone on Tuesday 3rd October from 4 - 6pm. The project, completed over the course of a number of months, records the oral history memories of older people living in the Athlone area. After Tomás Mac Conmara, author and oral historian opened the launch, Karyn Cronin from Athlone Community Services Council CLG gave a background to the project along with playing short excerpts of the oral recordings taken as part of the project. Attendees were then able to listen to the full recordings at the listening station. It was a wonderful afternoon and made even more wonderful by the fact that the recordings were donated to the library to be held for future generations to be able to listen to.
