  • Connecting Communities with Peatlands encourages peer-peer learning and is organising a pilot mentoring programme for community groups in the Just Transition region  (Kildare, Laois, Offaly, Westmeath, Longford, Roscommon, East Galway, North Tipperary) For more information contact aoife@irishrurallink.ie
  • If you are organising an event for Heritage Week 13th – 21st August be sure to upload it to the portal https://www.heritageweek.ie/ to ensure it reaches a wide audience. There will be a printed County Event Guide (no national guide this year) – be sure to upload your event as soon as possible and by Monday 11th July to ensure it is included in the print guide.   • Consultation on new Heritage and Biodiversity Plan Extended deadline you now have until COB Fri 22 July to make a submission on a new Heritage and Biodiversity plan for Westmeath. You can do so in one of three ways:

  • Thurs July 14th 8pm, Boher Hall meetingof the Westmeath Field Names Recording Project  - project coordinator Aengus Finnegan is inviting everyone interested in getting involved in recording the names of fields in the area to come along.
  • Sat 23rd July, Aras an Mhuilinn, 11am: Repair Acts storytelling workshop at facilitated by our storyteller Jack Lynch, followed at 2pm by a practical DIY workshop with Dave from the Rediscovery Centre. Come along and share tips your granny passed down, exchange local tales of repair and care, or to learn skills for everyday repairs including the repair of loose doors, hanging pictures, resealing worktops, and more.   • Thurs 28th & Fri 29th July, Ballintubber Heritage Group is hosting a Traditional Skills Course at Ballintubber Castle, County Roscommon on funded by the Heritage Council under the Community Heritage Grants Scheme, and supported by Roscommon County Council Heritage Office.
