Robyn Byrne: January Artist Spotlight

We want to connect Westmeath artists. Each month, we will be spotlighting an artist from or practicing in the county. The first artist of 2024 is Robyn Byrne, read more about her as she introduces herself and her work below.

"Hello, my name is Robyn. I’m a contemporary dancer, choreographer and more recently, a movement director from Mullingar. I’m driven by collaborative and cross disciplinary approaches to art making. In the current climate, I think community and connection is incredibly important so I strive for that when making work.

Last year was a busy year for me. I performed in two shows; Tempo Rubato by Alex Iseli (Ireland & Tenerife) and Powerful Trouble by Junk Ensemble (Dublin Theatre Festival). I choreographed MOSH, by Rachel Ní Bhraonáin, which won Best Ensemble at Dublin Fringe Festival and also co-choreographed Dwelling by Peter Power, for new arts and technology festival Beta. I was awarded the Next Generation Artist Award and with that I am spending more time expanding my practise toward movement direction. I’m entering 2024 with a slower pace (always easier said than done), with open arms and in search of new collaborations. If you would like to collaborate or even just meet for an artistic chat drop me a line at brobyn91@gmail.com. You can connect more with my work at www.robynbyrne.com or via instagram @robin.red.breast."
